Terms & Conditions

These terms govern access to and use of Endemism.org. The site provides reference material about endemic species, native ranges, taxonomy, geographic patterns, and biological datasets. By using the site, visitors agree to use its content and technical features in a lawful and reasonable manner.

Scope of the site

Endemism.org is an informational and reference website. Content may include species checklists, taxonomic information, native-range descriptions, quantitative biodiversity data, charts, tables, source citations, and explanatory material.

The site does not guarantee that every taxonomic group, geographic area, or biological dataset is covered. Coverage depends on the availability and quality of suitable evidence.

Biological data can change. Taxonomic revisions, new species descriptions, distribution records, reassessments, and updated inventories may alter information that was correct when a page was published.

Acceptable use

Visitors may use Endemism.org for normal research, reference, educational, informational, and personal purposes, subject to applicable law and the rights attached to individual content or third-party materials.

Use of the site must not interfere with its operation, security, availability, or other visitors’ access. Attempts to damage the site, bypass security measures, gain unauthorized access, inject malicious code, or deliberately overload site infrastructure are prohibited.

Accuracy and changing information

Reasonable care is taken to support factual claims with suitable biological, taxonomic, governmental, institutional, or scientific sources. Even so, biodiversity data are not static.

Species names may change, populations may be reclassified, geographic records may be corrected, and authorities may adopt different taxonomic treatments. Published material should therefore be read within the scope, date, and definitions of the evidence supporting it.

Endemism.org does not promise that every page will remain accurate indefinitely without revision.

Use of biological information

Information on Endemism.org may support general research and reference work, but it should not be treated as the sole authority for decisions that require formal scientific, regulatory, legal, conservation, environmental, or land-management review.

Where a decision depends on the legal status, protected status, exact range, current taxonomy, or regulatory treatment of a species, the relevant official authority or primary scientific source should be consulted directly.

A species record on Endemism.org describes published biological information; it does not create or replace a legal conservation designation.

Taxonomic differences

Different scientific authorities may recognize different species limits, names, synonymies, or higher classifications. Endemism.org may follow one accepted treatment where evidence supports it without implying that all authorities use the same classification.

Differences between sources are not necessarily errors. They may result from different publication dates, taxonomic concepts, geographic definitions, or dataset purposes.

Third-party sources and websites

Endemism.org cites and refers to external databases, government agencies, scientific institutions, museums, universities, publications, conservation organizations, and other third-party sources.

External websites operate independently and are responsible for their own content, availability, security, privacy practices, licensing conditions, and terms of use. A citation or reference does not mean that Endemism.org controls or endorses every statement published by that source.

Links to external websites are provided for reference and source verification. A destination may change, move, become unavailable, or update its content after an Endemism.org page is published.

Endemism.org is not responsible for damage, loss, tracking, downloads, or other consequences arising from the independent operation of a third-party website.

Content rights

Original text, site-created graphics, charts, page layouts, editorial compilations, and other original material published by Endemism.org may be protected by copyright and related rights.

Scientific facts, taxonomic names, public-domain information, and third-party datasets remain subject to the legal status and licensing conditions that apply to them.

Use of substantial original Endemism.org material must comply with applicable copyright law and any permissions or licensing terms that apply.

Automated access

Automated systems may not be used to disrupt the site, evade technical restrictions, extract material at a rate that harms normal operation, or reproduce substantial portions of Endemism.org as a substitute or mirror service.

Normal search-engine crawling and other legitimate indexing activity may be allowed subject to technical controls applied by the site.

Messages, corrections, and submitted information

Visitors may submit correction reports, source suggestions, or other messages through available contact methods. Submitting information does not guarantee that a proposed change will be accepted or published.

Claims affecting taxonomy, endemic status, geographic range, or numerical data may be checked against suitable evidence before a published page is changed.

Visitors should not submit confidential information or material they do not have the right to share.

Site availability

Access to Endemism.org may occasionally be interrupted by maintenance, hosting failures, security measures, software changes, network problems, or circumstances outside the site’s control.

No guarantee is made that every page, feature, external citation, or service will remain available without interruption.

Changes to published material

Pages, tables, species records, citations, charts, and other material may be corrected, expanded, reorganized, replaced, or removed when evidence or site requirements change.

Publication of an earlier version does not create an obligation to preserve outdated biological information where a correction or taxonomic revision is supported.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be revised when site functions, legal requirements, content practices, or technical services change. Continued use of the site after revised terms are published is subject to the version then available on Endemism.org.

Responsibility for use

Visitors are responsible for how they use information obtained from Endemism.org and for checking any requirements that apply to their own research, publication, commercial use, professional work, or legal obligations.

Nothing on the site grants rights over third-party material beyond those provided by the relevant owner, license, law, or source terms.

Questions about these terms

Questions concerning use of Endemism.org, content permissions, reported errors, or these terms can be submitted through the site’s contact channel.
